Green Living From Within
Design Summary

Natural materials, eco-friendly principles and harmonious living are the key elements behind this prime apartment overlooking the modern urban landscape of Taipei City. The contrast and interplay between silence and vitality is carefully considered in this residential design. The designer strives to emulate the vibrant, invigorating atmosphere of a forest that at the same time provides a soothing retreat for the clients to come home to.

Design Description

To counterbalance the coldness of the building’s steel construction, a vertical garden was created in the entrance hall of the apartment. Not only does this offer exquisite views from the living room, it also serves the functional purpose of keeping the space naturally cool. Taking advantage of the abundance of natural light provided by three large-scale windows, the designer’s use of a mild, neutral colour scheme and the changing play of lighting conditions throughout the day, emphasise the flexibility of the space and the lifestyle it contains, from dusk to nighttime.

The designer ingeniously made use of a vertical layout to separate the three living zones. This creates a user-friendly space that also allows for each family member to have access to the impressive view.

Serpeggiante marble, wooden floor boards, and diatomaceous earth walls are used throughout the living areas to amplify the formal elements of the space through materials that connect the floor, wall, and ceiling. Visually, an effect is achieved that reduces the sharp lines and boundaries, adding to an atmosphere of comfort and serenity. The use of natural building materials add a level of sustainability and environmentally conscious living.

Through clever space planning, the designer managed to optimise available space and create a style of living that is defined by its plurality and functional adaptability. The result: a sophisticated home that is uplifting, healthy, and multi-sensory.
